THE CHALLENGE
Vietnam was celebrating the lunar new year when news started to trickle out of China about COVID-19. Two weeks later, schools across Vietnam were closed and the country entered a nationwide lockdown.
While the swift action of the Vietnamese government was something to be admired, we were left to figure out how to continue generating leads for Cognita Vietnam’s three international schools in Ho Chi Minh City.
With out-of-home (OOH) advertising no longer an option and the advertising budget cut, the spotlight was now on us as the only viable advertising option left to generate even MORE leads with LESS budget.
Things only got worse from there.
As schools continued to remain closed…
Potential parents were too afraid of COVID-19 to tour the school campuses in-person.
Many potential parents began to question sending their children abroad at all as the pandemic worsened in the West.
Then, disaster struck.
Enrolled parents at several international schools across the country began to demand full refunds on tuition.
Some of these same parents went on to form coalitions, protesting online and even in front of one of the schools.
This whole situation was further amplified by the nation’s media, adding fuel to the fire.
Schools proceeded to open and close several times throughout the rest of the academic year in response to COVID-19 threats.
Needless to say, times were tough, especially when all eyes were on us to hit lead gen KPIs from corporate that went unchanged despite a global pandemic.
However, even with all of these seemingly insurmountable obstacles, we continued to generate more leads, not only meeting KPIs during the 2019-2020 academic year, but exceeding them.
How?!

THE SOLUTION
We had been working with Cognita Vietnam on a subcontract with paperanarchy/LIT Results/Shutta since September 2018 to improve their schools’ SEO while generating leads through Google Ads and landing pages designed by Omega.
During this time we also performed in-depth competitor, keyword, and market research in order to better understand how to generate more leads for less for the international schools.
Using this information we then structured campaigns around the buyer’s journey stages of awareness, consideration, and decision.
This strategy propelled all three schools’ Google Ads to the top of nearly every ad auction for over a year.
But then everything changed.
After the pandemic hit, competition in the Google Ads space was at an all-time high due to international schools’ shift to digital advertising.
Meanwhile, lead generation was slowing down significantly due to parents’ apprehension about the future and their eyes being glued to any news about COVID-19.
This resulted in nearly a 50% drop in search volume for international schools practically overnight, which didn’t end up recovering until well after the 2020 academic year was over.
This meant it was time for something new.
First, we made significant changes to the ad and landing page copy, adopting an optimistic tone that focused on preparing children for the future through continuous learning whether in-school or at-home.
Then, to stay ahead of the competition we began employing a number of tools including Google Ads Keyword Planner, Google Analytics, Google Trends, and social listening to pre-empt any rise or fall in search volume.
This is how we knew when and where to allocate advertising budget.
Lastly, we heavily segmented all three schools’ campaigns by language and grade level, making for laser-targeted advertising.
This meant creating a lot more ad campaigns and landing pages for each of the three Cognita Vietnam international schools.
This was all done in the matter of days.
Not weeks or months, thanks to Omega’s Triple-A service being agile, adaptable, and aligned.
When the other international schools’ marketing teams were running around like chickens with their heads cut off and pausing ad campaigns across the board, we were still hard at work generating leads.
Having a digital marketing agency in the driver’s seat was paying off tenfold.
This allowed us to out-maneuver international schools with in-house marketing teams that lacked understanding of the nuances of digital advertising, as we continued to optimize our ad campaigns and landing pages on a biweekly basis.
Our insistance on using Instapage landing pages developed by Omega rather than the schools’ web developers was another saving grace, allowing us to pivot much faster than other international schools.

WE CREATE CAMPAIGNS THAT CONVERT
Over the course of the 2019-2020 academic year, we generated a total of 1,370 leads thanks to our Google Ads and landing pages, with 51% of these leads converting into full inquiries, for a total of 699 inquiries.
This is over double the lead-to-inquiry conversion rate of competing international schools.
Between the three schools, our work directly accounted for 89.12% of all digital leads of the project, with the remaining coming from Facebook ads by paperanarchy/LIT Results/Shutta.
Our ads and landing pages didn’t just generate leads though, they also drove direct inquiries, applications, and phone calls, as seen below.

International School Saigon Pearl Website Redesign

THE CHALLENGE
ISSP’s organic traffic was well behind the international school market in Ho Chi Minh City.
Worse still, the ISSP website’s inquiry form submission rate was abysmal.
We increased the organic inquiry form submission rate by 20% through on-page SEO, but it was obviously not enough.
It gets worse:
ISSP’s website was a carbon copy of its sister school’s, which was interfering with brand positioning.
There wasn’t even a Vietnamese version of the website, despite the fact that a large portion of their site visitors had their browser language set to Vietnamese.
All these problems were primarily caused by bad UX and UI design.
Because of this, we knew that ISSP’s website needed a full redesign from the ground up to reach its full potential.
THE SOLUTION
We had 3 main goals with the ISSP website redesign:
1. Increase organic traffic through restructuring the site, on-page SEO, and the creation of a Vietnamese version of the website.
2. Generate leads through a sticky email CTA on every page, and the creation of highly-optimized landing pages.
3. Most importantly, increase website inquiries by designing the site to drive visitors towards converting on the inquiry form submission page.
There was a lot wrong with the old ISSP website, so we will focus on the design decisions we made to drive conversions.
SITE NAVIGATION
ISSP’s old site navigation was unclear, unorganized, and frankly, overloaded.
This caused visitors to bounce from the site, and thus, not convert.
So, we determined the most important pages to display to users by analyzing ISSP’s most visited pages in 2019.
This left us with 15 pages.
We deleted any remaining pages and redirected those URLs to the 15 pages of value.
Doing this directs traffic only to pages that matter to users, and that will also lead to a conversion.
Next, the menu.
We simplified the names of each menu item to be as clear and concise as possible.
We also boiled the primary menu navigation to just three items, plus a link to the new “Contact Us” landing page.
This makes navigation through the site easier for users so that they get to where they want on the site as fast and easy as possible.
But, most importantly:
The new “Quick Links” menu item consolidated all the landing pages into one submenu.
This makes the path towards conversions on the website clear and easy for users.
THE HOMEPAGE
The old homepage was static, did not guide visitors to pages of value, and did not drive conversions.
We designed the new homepage with a cover video and subtle animations to attract and hold visitors’ attention while skimming the page.
This increases time-on-page and decreases bounce rate, both of which are SEO ranking factors.
Meaning these design decisions increase organic traffic.
Then, we determined 6 of the most important pages to display as blocks on the homepage.
Each of the 6 blocks contains a clear header, short description, and most importantly, a large red CTA button.
Directing visitors to these 6 pages is the easiest and fastest way for new site visitors to understand whether ISSP is right or not for their child.
This increases both the number of conversions and the quality of conversions compared to the old site.
Next, we included a testimonials section, which the old site was lacking.
We did this because parent testimonials are one of the most powerful forms of social proof for international schools.
These testimonials help increase conversions and conversion rate.
THE CTAS
First, we created a “sticky” CTA that encourages users to submit an inquiry.
“Sticky” means that the CTA follows the user as they scroll down each page.
Next, we designed a 3-button CTA section.
This serves to catch site visitors at the bottom of each page instead of them bouncing.
Each of the 3 buttons moves site visitors closer to an inquiry, application, or enrollment.
Last, but not least:
We created a CTA section for generating leads at the bottom of every page.
This took the form of an automated email campaign that moves people down the funnel from a lead to an inquiry.
All 3 of the CTAs mentioned above occur on every page of the website (excluding landing pages).
This is to maximize the chances of conversion.
CONCLUSION
Phew, that was a lot to go over.
But, as you can see, the smallest design decisions add up to make a big impact on your website’s conversion rate.

THE CHALLENGE
ISHCMC’s marketing department lives and dies by the number of inquiries they receive.
But, their organic traffic started to decline after the August 1st, 2018 Google Broad Core Algorithm Update.
Things started to look bad. Their organic traffic continued sliding ever downwards.
It got worse:
ISHCMC started receiving fewer inquiries too.
Panic started to creep in as the inquiry goal for January Term Start seemed harder and harder to reach.
But, the worst part was this:
They had no idea why this was happening, they weren’t even aware of the algorithm update from Google.
Enter Omega Digital.

THE SOLUTION
As with most of our SEO clients, the first step was a full SEO audit of ISHCMC’s website.
By “full SEO audit” we are referring to our AUDIT – SEO – ADVANCED service.
What we found during the audit was not good.
There were so many issues that you would be sitting here reading all day if we were to list them all.
So, we will list the two biggest issues we found during the SEO audit.
To start with, over 80% of the images on the ISHCMC website were over 100 KB in size.
This issue alone was dragging the site’s speed down a ton.
Pagespeed is not only an important ranking factor but one of the most important UX factors as well.
Think about it:
When was the last time you waited for a website to load more than 3 to 5 seconds?
The other biggest problem was ISHCMC’s backlink profile.
There were many suspicious websites linking back to the ISHCMC website.
So many in fact, that we were convinced that ISHCMC was the victim of “negative SEO”.
Negative SEO is when a competitor uses unethical techniques to sabotage your rankings in search engines.
Luckily, it wasn’t all bad news.
Both of these issues are easy to fix and can improve a site’s performance significantly once resolved.
After the SEO audit was done, ISHCMC was confident that Omega knew its SEO.
We then proceeded to fix all their site’s issues that were found through our audit, and the results of those fixes can be seen below.
THE RESULTS
Once the issues were all fixed, ISHCMC’s organic traffic saw a significant increase.
The growth didn’t stop there.
ISHCMC were happy with the results of the fixes from our SEO audit, so we carried on with our monthly OPTIMIZE – SEO – ESSENTIAL service to continue the growth.
This is where we go through a client’s website and perform on-page SEO on a page-by-page basis.
As a result of this service, ISHCMC’s organic traffic continued to grow.
It even survived the 5 different Google algorithm updates of 2019, and ISHCMC’s organic traffic continues to grow.
But in the end, organic traffic isn’t all that matters.
Most importantly, ISHCMC’s organic website inquiries increased by 23% in 2019 as a result of our SEO efforts.

Vespa Adventures Google Ads

THE CHALLENGE
Vespa Adventures had begun investing in Google Ads at the beginning of 2018.
They were spending thousands of dollars on Google Ads each quarter, yet they never knew if they were getting a return on ad spend.
Why?
They knew they needed to be running Google Ads, because their competitors were, yet they had no idea how to do it.
Because of this lack of experience, they were tracking conflicting conversion actions, adding competing keywords within the same campaigns, and much more.
This was the most disorganized Google Ads account we had ever seen.

THE SOLUTION
We set Vespa Adventures up with a subscription to our ADVERTISE – ESSENTIAL – GOOGLE service and got to work on the first step – a historical performance review.
After untangling the confusing web of conversions and keywords, we found the biggest problem.
Vespa Adventures was tracking conversion actions that were not even purchases.
This was bad because they were also using automated bid strategies.
So, they were optimizing their campaigns around conversions that held no value for their business.
What did we do to fix this?
We identified the one conversion action that held a monetary value.
Then, we deleted all the other conversion actions.
This is how we optimized the account to focus only on the one conversion action that mattered – a sale.
Next, we took a look at the keywords and ads in their past campaigns.
This didn’t help much since there was no rhyme or reason to their keyword strategy.
It got worse:
There wasn’t any split-testing of their ads.
There wasn’t even any audience or demographic targeting!
So, what were we supposed to do with this mess?
With a Google Ads account as unorganized as this, we knew it was best to start from scratch.
We chose to create only Search ads, due to Vespa Adventures’ limited budget and desire for sales.
These campaigns now had a standardized naming scheme, were segmented by location, and then further segmented by keyword.
Each campaign contained only one keyword.
This allowed us to create ads that were hyper-targeted and thus, performed much better.

THE RESULTS
After only one month, we achieved a 153% increase in purchases from Google Ads with 65% less ad spend.

BiaCraft Social Media Marketing Campaigns

THE CHALLENGE
BiaCraft Artisan Ales struggled with generating local awareness of new outlet openings.
With ambitious expansion plans for the brand on the horizon, this problem had the potential to become even worse for BiaCraft in a short time.
Realizing this, Tim, the CEO, reached out to us for help.
They needed marketing campaigns for 2 new location launches in November & December of 2018.
The best part:
Tim was more than happy to take a step back to focus on business operations while we did what we do best: build better brands.
UNEXPECTED OBSTACLES
Originally, BiaCraft’s plan was to launch two new locations, both within District 1 of Ho Chi Minh City.
But, negotiations with the landlord of the 2nd location fell through at the very last minute.
What was even worse:
This left us with only one week to completely redesign December’s campaign from the ground up for a new location in Tân Bình District.
The problem was the people of Tân Bình District had never heard of BiaCraft, let alone craft beer.
So, a completely different campaign strategy was necessary to pull off the kind of results we were achieving with November’s campaign.
But guess what?
Thanks to our laser focus on time-saving procedures, we were able to handle it.
And handle it, we did.
THE SOLUTION
BiaCraft’s brand is humorous, provocative, and as Tim says, “irreverent”.
This is something we took to heart, and it features in the content we created for these campaigns.
BiaCraft already had a consistent presence on Facebook with organic engagement averaging near 4%.
So, we chose it as the primary channel for the 2 marketing campaigns to amplify the impact of our campaigns.
We set them up with a subscription to our OPTIMIZE + ADVERTISE – SOCIAL MEDIA – ESSENTIAL services, then quickly identified 3 areas for improvement for BiaCraft:
• None of their content was in Vietnamese, despite over 80% of their customer base being Vietnamese.
• Virtually zero video content.
• A lack of coordinated social media marketing campaigns – each post was different and unrelated to the next.
After a historical performance analysis, we noticed that posts with Mark, the co-founder, performed best.
So, we decided to feature Mark in our campaigns.
Combining these findings with our mastery of the Facebook platform, we proposed something daring.
Two 3-week bilingual campaigns primarily consisting of humorous 6-second video ads in square & vertical format.
Short-form video campaigns such as these are rare in Vietnam.
They’re completely nonexistent within the country’s burgeoning craft beer industry.
Don’t think we forgot about the challenge of Tân Bình District:
To engage our Tân Bình District audience on Facebook, we did 3 things:
• Created a hyper-targeted audience by combining a Lookalike Audience with a Saved Audience.
• Shot videos around familiar local landmarks Tân Bình District.
• Created 2 contests to increase engagement & shareability of BiaCraft content, as well as attendance at the soft opening.
But here’s where the campaign got really interesting:
We decided to shoot and edit the entirety of these campaigns on an iPhone X.
This was to connect more intimately with BiaCraft’s fans through a raw, familiar content format.
Tim was more than happy to try it out and gave us the go-ahead.
The results speak for themselves.
THE RESULTS
We achieved the following in 8 weeks, despite posting 27% less than BiaCraft did in the previous 8 weeks:
