An enterprise application to streamline operations
The Challenge
Car Wash Enterprises, Inc. has over 60 Brown Bear Car Wash locations in the Pacific Northwest. As a company that washes over 4 million cars per year, it needed an easy and efficient way to capture customer concerns and streamline operations.
The Outcome
The Site Operations App is an enterprise application, built for iOS using React Native. The system allows onsite management to submit and track incidents and build peace of mind for their customers.
Our Initial Approach
Car Wash Enterprises, Inc., engaged Flower Press Creative Studio to build an app to streamline and simplify its internal operations. We met with stakeholders, including car wash attendants, regional managers, and senior leadership, to determine how best to improve their documentation and reporting process. Their existing process was paper-based and manual with many steps between each level of management approval.
We built the app in React Native, keeping the employee experience in mind. The app enhanced customer-facing incident reporting and created documentation for internal records.

The Site Operations App will include future features to help streamline Car Wash Enterprises, Inc.’s operations. Capturing customer concerns and efficiently dealing with incidents is the first step in enhancing customer experience. The company is committed to growing its internal tools, to continue to improve the service they are able to deliver to customers. Before the Field, a mental-conditioning system for student-athletes
The Challenge
Student-athletes face growing pressure balancing home, school, and sports. They need an accessible and engaging way to improve their self-knowledge and, ultimately, their athletic progress and performance. Coaches require better methods to connect with their teams and tailor their training to individual needs. Before the Field wanted to create an engaging and easy way to meet these challenges.
The Outcome
Before the Field is a platform that supports athletes' development on and off the field by giving them the tools to understand who they are. The app allows students to share the context of their performance and growth as human beings with the people most important to them on their journey, including coaches who can use this information to customize their training methods.
Our Approach
Before the Field approached Flower Press Creative Studio to build an app geared towards high school athletes based on the Acceptance Commitment Therapy framework, a psychology tool widely used by college and professional sports teams. The founders had conducted a pilot program with athletes in the previous sports season using survey tools, interviews, and other lightweight methods. During that process, they created a series of modules designed to improve self-knowledge and mental conditioning in athletes. These ideas were still early and needed to be refined to be included in the mobile app.
We conducted a series of stakeholder interviews and created a workflow and prototype to capture the existing concepts. We worked through refinements, including gamification, UI/UX best practices, and cohesive end-to-end user engagement strategies. We conducted early-user interviews with student-athletes, coaches, and recruiters and made additional adjustments. We simplified and refined the feature set during these sessions to define an MVP.
With our initial feature set in mind, our designers collaborated with the founders to create a modern brand identity using bold colors and graphics to appeal to young athletes.
The app guides athletes through rating their strengths and values, logging game and practice performance and evaluations, and determining the source of their stress. A stress exercise helps athletes focus on breathing and reaffirming their values. It is designed for teams–once coaches enroll in their organization, they can send invitations to their athletes to join. Regular interaction with the Before the Field app results in higher engagement scores, allowing the platform to create an accurate portrayal of the athlete. Once the engagement threshold is reached, athletes can share their character cards with recruiters, coaches, and teammates.
Our development team built the cross-platform app in React Native and released it for iOS and Android in the same timeline. The app uses custom algorithms and third-party integrations to generate ongoing performance gains and engagement in athletes.
Ongoing Growth
Before the Field will continue to add features that allow student-athletes to grow and share their development with decision-makers and friends. We are excited to see Before the Field's impact on the athletes and teams of the future.
Real Work: A hiring platform designed just for the trades
THE CHALLENGE
Real Work, a start-up that focuses on connecting workers in the trades with those who hire them, needed a platform that would serve both workers and employers. The construction and service industries need more skilled labor and it’s impacting their ability to get work done. The Real Work web application needed to include license and certification information from multiple states, and be built to scale. Employers needed to be able to customize and post job opportunities and workers needed to be able to add licenses and additional resume information to their profiles.
THE OUTCOME
The Real Work web app is built for people in the trades and those who employ them. On the worker side, users can receive notifications about licenses about to expire and new jobs that may match their skill set, and customize their profile to reflect their work preferences and experience. Employers can post job openings, review candidates, and find the skilled workers they need. Both sides of the Real Work are simple to navigate and make connections through the platform.
OUR APPROACH
First, we interviewed stakeholders and potential users to determine which features would be most helpful to both job seekers and employers. Next, we designed a simple dashboard experience for both sides to create and manage their profiles. We added pops of blue shades to the existing orange, black, and white branding, resulting in an eye-catching and pleasing design. We built the web app in React and integrated Stripe payment systems for easy processing of subscription fees.
ONGOING GROWTH
Real Work is going to do amazing things for the trades industries. It has big plans to expand its reach and services. Addressing ongoing infrastructure needs by streamlining the process for workers and employers to connect will have a lasting impact, and we are excited to be a part of it!
